The commenters on the Ray Rice domestic violence incident have been troubling to say the VERY least. Everyones entitled to their opinion, but I will share this: There is a formal, researched, and documented name for what many of you all are doing in regards to your opinions of his wife: Its called victim blaming. Its common. And is generally a byproduct of ignorance about domestic violence (dont shoot the messenger). Because heres the facts, if you knew anything about domestic violence, you would NEVER ask this question: Why didnt she just leave? Nor would you be surprised that she married him. (Spoiler Alert: Saying it was for the money he made is probably simultaneously one of the top 5 most oversimplified, most likely to be inaccurate and troubling responses.) Spiritually, some of you guys are underestimating the power and strength of soul ties. But theres more at play here. Im gonna post a series of things that can hopefully help out anyone who 1) Wants to know why she stayed, 2) Wants to know what kind of woman would let a man beat on her, and 3) Wants to be available to be used to help somebody (and definitely if youre a Christian, you should be in this category, but just being real - you wont have to help somebody if your opinion mirrors some of these comments Ive read - youd do/are already doing more harm than good). Ive written something on it before, but domestic violence is something too many know too little about..and its showing in some of your comments.
