The communication, financial, and implementation inefficiencies in - TopicsExpress

The communication, financial, and implementation inefficiencies in the healthcare industry are astounding. Here is what I have learned in the last few months: 1. Scheduling appointments is difficult and confusing task that consumes time of patients and office staff alike because the deciders are disengaged from the process, but at the same time required to make decisions. 2. Well call you is a statement rife with ambiguity and uncertainty and inconsistency 3. You are registered does not mean we know you are coming 4. Asking one hospital to get access to information from another hospital is apparently a confusing request 5. There is no single person responsible for information (ie no one is responsible) while information is health!!! The patient is the most vulnerable person in the system and yet the demands on the patient for self-advocacy so far as information is concerned is amazing. 6. Not one medical professional knows the cost of the service they provide or the cost of the goods they sell 7. The patient NEVER knows the cost of the services or goods they are using. 8. The healthcare industry and related and reimbursement systems (insurance) is completely unmotivated to be transparent about the costs of healthcare. 9. The healthcare system has demonstrated that it would rather risk having to treat with intermittent expensive emergency care than provide inexpensive sustained preventive care. 10. Most healthcare workers are untrained and feel helpless to address systemic and integrative questions about patient needs, but are well trained to deal with narrow and specific needs. Can I get a witness?
