The company I work for leases equipment from Ryder.. so when it breaks down, I get to call the Ryder customer center for roadside assistance.. it usually ends up with me getting in a worse mood.. I mean, Im already stuck somewhere and who knows how long it will take.. so tonite, I find myself at a dock, on the backside of a building in Dayton, and some electrical problem leaves me with no lights, no bells, no whistles.. nothing.. truck wont start.. like the battery is deader than a door nail.. but it had been running for 10 hours previous.. just 5 mins ago.. so I decide that rather than get in a worse mood. Ill enjoy the call to the service center. Theyre such an easy target. -thank you for calling Ryder, are you experiencing a breakdown? -no, Im calm.. but the truck wont start. -are you in a safe location? -yes.. as safe as you can be surrounded by cinnamon bread in Dayton -what is your name and phone # if were are disconnected.. -well it wont change -excuse me? -my name will be the same if we get disconnected.. why would it change? -Im sorry sir, what is your name and # (I tell her) -is there a name of someone at your company and a phone number? -yes -Im sorry? -thats ok -sir is there a name of someone and a number? -I just told you.. -Im sorry sir, I didnt hear it -I didnt say it -sir, what is the name of the contact? -Neal -can you give me his number? -why. .hes not a mechanic and hes in chicago asleep I imagine.. and if someone gets to wake him up.. I want to listen. -OK sir, can you give me your exact location? -yes (she never learns) -what is that location sir? -Im in a building at 2407 crosspoint drive -thank you sir, and what is the problem with the truck or trailer? -its the truck.. it has no electrical power. -can you describe the truck... -yes - what is on the trailer sir? -bread - no sir, I mean what markings are on the outside.. - I just told you maam.. bread. - not your load sir, what does the trailer have on the outside so the service truck can find you. - maam, its a 53 long trailer with a bunch of loaves of bread painted on the side of it.. and it says.. never have an ordinary day.. - thank your sir, and what does the tractor look like.. -(face palm) .. maam.. if the guy cant find a 13 tall 53 long loaf of bread at a specific address.. I dont think it really makes a big difference does it? - thank you sir.. what does the tractor look like? - well.. for one thing, it will be the one with no lights on -thank you sir.. what is the mileage on the tractor? -maam.. its too dark in there to see.. and besides, its an LED display lets just call it half a million..its an old POS truck. -thank you sir.. -maam, arent you going to ask me if the truck is on fire? -excuse me sir? -arent you going to ask me if Im having a fire? last time i called for help the girl asked if my truck was on fire -Im sorry sir, ARE you having a fire? -no maam.. and its a damn good thing since you didnt seem to care til I brought it up.. -Im sorry sir. is there anything else? -uhh.. yes. is the service tech coming soon? -His eta is one hour.. -. ok.. is he a big guy? did he sound like a big guy? -sir? - well see.. Im gonna order a pizza.. and if hes a big guy, Ill get an extra large - thank you sir..is there anything else ? - do you think he like thin crust..? - thank you for calling ryder ..
