The company recently partnered the Philippine Red Cross- Surigao del Norte (PRC-SDN) Chapter for the conduct of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Orientation and Community Mobilization of Barangay Talavera, the company’s host community. The activity, under the information, communication and education (ICE) advocacy, is in line with the company’s Social Development and Management Program or SDMP. The one-day activity held at Talavera SB Session Hall was participated by different stakeholders of barangay Talvera, sitio BagongSilang and sitio Campandan comprising the village officials and representatives from different local sectors and organizations. These groups include Christian sects, barangay health workers, youth and People’s Organizations, namely: Association of Bakers and Beauticians of Talavera, Barangay Talavera Livestock and Poultry Raisers Association. The facilitators of the activity were PRC-SDN Chapter Administrator MarilouTalingting, Dinah E. Dicap, and John Edward B. Barbero in which the topics discussed were Overview about Red Cross, its Services and the Notion of Volunteerism, Salient Features of RA 10121, the DRRM Framework and Way Forward. During the Way Forward wherein the participants were asked on the succeeding actions to undertake, it was mentioned that it was imperative that the barangay will first organize its Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC). Initially and for deliberation of the barangay council, the said BDRRMC will consist of barangay council members, purok chairmen, the Department of Education represented by the school heads, people’s organizations, senior citizens sector, women’s group, fisher folks, members of BPLKs and barangay health workers, religious sector, youth, among others. The company is also involved as a member under the private sector. To capacitate the community, series of planning workshops, drills and trainings were lined up such as contingency planning and community evacuation drill. In his message, Brgy. Captain Marvin Tapuyo asserted that such undertaking is timely and important since the community has always been visited by strong typhoons. He added that tapping HMC will greatly improve the implementation of the programs of DRRM. According to Brgy.Kagawad Thelma Lisondra, she was thankful that the company initiated the program and hopeful that their DRRM activities will complement that of the company’s. The company has allocated more than Php 2 million of its SDMP funds for programs and activities relating to DRRM in which the lion’s share goes to disaster preparedness and response equipment and supplies. PRC-SDN has been a principal partner of the company especially during last year’s implementation of the latter’s health programs. Major activities include two (2) mass blood donations that resulted to 158 units of blood collected and distribution of health insurances (senor and silver memberships) to more than 1,450 individuals in the community. #NACcares #HMC #ResponsibleMining #DisasterRiskReductionManagement
