The company we keep has such an influence on our spiritual life. Fellowship with godly people will help speed us on to victory, while fellowship with those who are ungodly will drag us down to defeat. Thats why the Bible has some things to say about our friends. Thats why it tells us to separate ourselves from the world. Because evil companions will corrupt us. Im not talking about ministering. Jesus Himself ministered to sinners. We have to mix with them to preach to them and pray for them. What Im talking about here are the people we choose for friends. If we want to walk in the things of the Lord, we cant choose friends who walk in the things of the devil, people who talk and act ungodly, who dont give God any place in their lives. They will pull us down. As we rub shoulders with them, we expose ourselves to temptation. Well get so familiar with sin it will start to appear less repulsive to us. Sooner or later, well fall into it. So, lets choose our friends wisely. Fellowship with those who call on the Name of the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Timothy 2:22) Expose ourselves to their love and peace. Let their faith rub off on us.
