The competition in October was stiff but that didn’t stop several players to stand out. As voted on by the YALD administration, here are the players of the month. Quarterback of the Month honors goes to Brandon Herrera. From the moment he took over that position, the 49ers offense flourished. Coach Michel Tineo’s intricate play calling has propelled the play of his quarterback. He led his team to a league high 3 wins in the month of October and are leading the league in points scored. Having receivers like Journalist Pena and Welsey Valdez has helped his cause. He has thrown a total of 13 touchdowns and his accuracy is getting better. During extra points, he splits out wide and is a reliable target. This young man is all about business and a fierce competitor. He took the loss to the Steelers very personal and vowed to improve. Let’s see how he plays moving forward as the final games of the season are upon us. Congratulations Brandon Herrera. Offensive Specialist goes to Kevin Camilo. For most of the year he has had to adjust to a different quarterback but the Raiders seem to have found the perfect fit. Despite a minor hiccup that sidelined him for one game, he still managed to put up memorable numbers. He had 20 receptions, 8 of which have been touchdowns in the month of October. His speed and agility makes him a threat any time he touches the ball. Very explosive in the short passing game and fast enough to get behind any defense. This versatile player has also played a major role on defense with 3 interceptions. Look for more explosiveness from this young man as he leads the Raiders to the playoffs. Congratulations Kevin Camilo. Defensive recognition goes to Jose Nunez. Lions have been inconsistent all year but it’s not because of lack of effort. Whenever Jose Nunez steps on the field, he gives his team a legitimate chance to win. He’s made a case for both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Month. This young man has had 4 interceptions and numerous deflections. He’s a very fast player that takes long strides when he runs. Hopefully his efforts can rub off on his teammates and they can get back on track. Congratulations Jose Nunez. Honorable Mention 1. Austin Guzman – Slightly edged out by Brandon Herrera for quarterback honors, he continues to be the staple that holds the Packers together. 2. Andre Estrella – A ton of receptions on offense and a few interceptions on defense. 3. Jeremiah McGarvey – Has really thrived in his new wide receiver position. 4. Nick Reyes – Challenging Rafael Moreno for the lead league in sacks. 5. Mike Cabrera – Playing extremely well on both sides of the ball.
