The concert finalé update from Kuthiramalika in Musics words! ... O.S. Aruns concert brought down the curtain for this years Swathi Festival in a befitting way!! Today was the last day of one of the best festivals I have ever attended. So many new people and surprises were there! Today it was O.S.Arun, with his same team like last two years. M.R.Gopinath, J.vaidyanathan, Karthick, Ganapathy Tabla and Freddie special effects. Prince gave such a nice introduction last year that I was wondering what he will say today. I dont know how he gets things to say like this! It was amazing! He first said that Thyagaraja was so great and so famous even during his time, that Swathi Thirunal Thamburan invited him to come to Travancore. He sent Shadkala Govindamarar as a messenger. When Thyagaraja heard him sing, he sang Endaro Mahanubhavulu! But he could not come to Travancore. Then Prince said, just now Thyagaraja aradhana got over in Thiruyaiyar. He said, if we go to Thyagarajas house in Thiruvaiyar now, we will see a board there, with many names. On that you will prominently see O.S.Aruns name! So, though Swathi Thirunal Thamburan tried to get Thyagaraja and could not do that, now we have Thyagarajas custodian here! It was such an unexpected introduction and got big smiles and big claps too. Today the audience was very good too. O.S.Arun started with Vande Sada Padmanabham in Navarasa Kannada. He makes many faces and does strange things with his mouth too, like Sanjay Subrahmanyan does. But when he splits the words clearly, it is so beautiful. He will take the words and play around with them. This is really sweet and we feel thrilled. The second song was Paripalaya Mam. This was also very nice and nobody had sung it until now. The third song was pahi Parvatha Nandini in Arabhi, with many rounds of swarams. Maybe because Prince spoke about Thyagaraja, he sang some swarams that sounded like Thyagarajas Pancharathnam Sadhinchane in Arabhi too. This was also very nice. After this it was very elaborate Parama Purusha Jagadeesha. He says Jagadeesa instead of Jagadeesha. It was really cute. He first sang just Eeeeeesa! Then Jagadeeeesa! Then only started the song. I thought this would be the main piece, but it was not. This is the same song from another year. https://youtube/watch?v=eQSmuBFbqes Then he sang Yogijaatha in Naadanamakriya. This was nice, but I liked how Amrutha Venkatesh sang it, even more. https://youtube/watch?v=y1_A0bj658w The main was Sarasaksha. This had nice neraval and swarams. The percussion was unbelievable! I think, with this team playing like this, any singer will succeed, unless he is really bad. Many times we feel like we are in another world, only because of the magic created by the percussion team today. I didnt enjoy violin much today. After the very nice thaniyavarthanam, it was Chaliye Kunjan Mo. Here also, when he split the words and sang clearly, it was so beautiful! He sang Shyam Shyam and made us all clap along with him! It was so thrilling! My hands are still paining, after clapping, clapping, so loudly! Really, O.S.Arun is the best choice to end a big festival like this. So grand and so nice! Then he sang Smaradinumam Sadaym in Behag and finished with Dhanashri Thillana and mangalam. Normally I feel very very sad after a festival like this or Navarathri is over. But today all of us there got the bessssst surprise! Princes mother announced that Prince will give a concert with thukkadas here, at the Sri Uthradam Thirunal Art Gallery, which is just next to Kuthiramalika, on 22nd January evening! We all clapped when we heard this news. I feel like singing and dancing now, even though I dont know singing or dancing. I am already waiting, waiting, waiting for 22nd. I heard Prince talk to some people today after the concert. He was saying that this concert just got fixed suddenly this evening only.
