I hope that Bratton is taking some lessons, because his approach in devaluing Black and Hispanic lives in NYC is heading for a boiling point, sooner or later! We have had too many incidents and the mass criminalization of our youth for petty offenses must cease! By racially targeting them and arresting nearly 100K for petty misdemeanors in the first six months (while White youth are not monitored and get a pass) he is reinforcing a racist attitude in NYPD and slowly destroying many lives. Mayor Bill de Blasio there is more than one way to kill a child. Michael Brown was instantly murdered by a stream of bullets. The opportunities for our youth are slowly murdered in Rikers Island and other facilities where they experience unspeakable cruelty while awaiting trial for non-violent minor offenses! Many are too poor to meet bail of even a few hundred dollars! The court system is so overcrowded with these cases that many languish in the facilities for months and years while awaiting trial! Here is a recent report from the US Attorney regarding his findings about Rikers Island culture of violence against teenagers.
