The core drill close up on the right looks just like the kind of core cuts that Ive made cutting large diameter holes (inches in diameter instead of less than an inch) through laminated wood beams. For holes less than an inch in diameter one uses a solid drill bit. For holes larger than an inch, one uses a special borer that is a hollow cylinder. It is clear from these photos that the cutting tool was a hollow cylinder. Hence the characteristic recessed ring in the rock where the cutting process ceased. Presumably these pyramids were constructed even before the Bronze Age, so the hardest metal that these ancient Egyptians would have had to work with is copper. Well, copper is a very soft metal and would not make any manner of penetration into rock of this hardness (and bronze wouldnt fare much better). Christopher Dunn covers all such anomalies found in the engineering prowess of whoever the pyramid builders were I his two books. The standard history model of Egypt fails spectacularly when viewed through the eyes of engineers and machining specialist, such as Dunn.
