The core of the human personality is the Consciousness, which is the fulcrum around which all the activities of the body, mind, and intellect revolve. While the physical, mental, and intellectual equipments keep changing, developing, and decaying, Consciousness remains ever changeless and immovable like the axle in a wheel which itself remains stationary but causes the wheel to revolve. When human beings identify with the changeless, immovable factor which is the Consciousness, they are no longer victimized by the sorrows of the changing phenomena of perceptions, emotions, and thoughts. They become the supreme Lord of them all. The intellectual pursuits, emotional attachments, and physical cravings of such persons wither and fall away naturally just as the petals of a flower fall when the fruit develops. ~ Foundation Vedanta Course, Lesson 7
