The cosplay community is starting to upset me. Ive seen too many you shouldnt do this or someone did it better/first posts in the last few months. I cosplay because its fun and I get to express my passions by embodying characters I love (or love to hate). I also go to cons to meet other geeks because Ive waited my whole life for our subculture to be this opened and accepted. I am fortunate enough to keep the ones that are supportive, encouraging and kind (and all around awesome) in my inner circle and those who have proven to be anything less than the above attributes at arms length. Ive leaned to shrug off any negativity my way, but I am sick and tired of watching others get discouraged and hurt because of this sort of negativity. Stop with the elitism. Its completely uncalled for and that sort of thing ruining our subculture and damaging each other. In the words of Mr. Wheaton: dont be a dick.
