The cost of government compliance is huge. For every dollar an employee receives there is roughly another 25 cents of cost associated with that employee. Unemployment insurance, matching taxes, workers compensation insurance, and more. It is ridiculous and most workers, aka voters have no idea that a quarter if their worth is going to the government long before any withholding taxes are collected.
