The cost of traveling with the divine is enduring lifelong - TopicsExpress

The cost of traveling with the divine is enduring lifelong ceremonies of mini-deaths of self. no matter how rich and vibrant the journey with god, the death of self is difficult and painful. If youre taking the Christian invitation seriously, these little deaths can and should happen in all areas of your life - from your home to the workplace, to school, to the grocery store, to the gas station, to the nightclubs, to the battlefields, and to the pews. Nowhere is safe from costly grace. So for the romantics out there (of which i am one, unfortunately) who want to slip their hands into the bloodied palm of Christ and skip through the fields of lilies singing songs about how sweet it is to be love by Jesus, I have a horrible new flash. your lover is scarred; there is torn flesh and there are gaping holes and the fields are full of sinners. But there is good news, even if it doesnt always sound like good news. If all those sinners are willing to embrace and follow a scarred and servant Savior, then the field becomes the church, and the canvas of love is stretched out beyond the sweet (and sometimes saccharine) to include sacrifice, obedience, and an increasing willingness to become the scarred body of Christ for an aching world. - Enuma Okoro - Reluctant Pilgrim
