The costs for running a small business can be remarkable. In some cases throughout Aberdeen in particular, these costs create such an environment that workers trend towards family only. The simple fact is that in these cases, a business can not afford to pay decent wages. In other cases some larger businesses will reduce hours to compensate for higher wages. Its a never ending cycle that has plagued the economy for decades. Recently, it has been reported that the economy is doing well and even recovering. I dont buy into that one....but then I do not run a data center either. For those that do not understand business on the management end, there are plenty of examples of profit and loss statements throughout the Internet. If one adds in regulations per demographic, then one can see just how costly meeting standards can be. Here in Aberdeen, the focus seems to be on beautification, traffic diversion, a visitor center, the seaport, and so on. I have no problem with any of these as it is....except that the question of what it is exactly has never been answered. With all of the above in mind, why are we not focusing on putting people to work? Asking for volunteers will not create jobs. Now, if all of these ideas do mean more jobs, could somebody clue me in and tell me just how? Right now, as I see it, we are just treading water on an endless river next to an oily floating pontoon.
