The country turned out to vote. For a change, the majority of the country actually bothered to go and vote. The majority decided to Vote NO to Scottish independence and protect the union . I thank all those who came together and befriended each other in the campaign to save the UK and keep Scotland as an integral part of it. I wish to Thank all those friends who shall remain in hidden groups in cyberspace who never the less, continued to carry the message to those pages which I and others were banned from. Those of us who met up with each other, those who were able to get out on the streets to leaflet and those who manned stalls, because we wanted no truck with insular nationalism. Those whose only aim was to break up the Union have been peddling a lie for a very very long time. The saying goes, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The SNP almost succeeded in doing this. Technology today placed the ability to research the lie, no further away than the keyboard in front of themselves. For some, the evidence was ignored as they chose to continue believing the lie and the spin others placed on the facts. As this campaign gathered momentum, especially through the medium of cyberspace, I became mortified at the realisation practically half the population of Scotland had been taken in by the lie and regarded it as truth. It made no difference the real evidence was all around them, they refused to acknowledge the truth. There are those who will never acknowledge the truth, for they have been brainwashed. The level of economic illiteracy displayed is staggering said one gentleman during a debate. Those with nothing to lose have voted for Yes and tipped the balance in four constituencies. said one pundit. Irrespective of how Scotland votes, it brings upon its own head the consequences said I. The lie is that Scotland subsidises England. Some will never admit this is a lie, they simply believe Scotland has an economy which is larger than our neighbor over ten times our size. Those with nothing to lose actually risked losing everything, but they could not see this. The referendum need never have happened but it did and change will come. I notice the call is now going out on Newspaper Headlines Home Rule for England and a call for greater devolution powers to all of the Home Nations. As I see it, as each decides it wants to do things differently it will want to spend its wealth in different ways. The defence of the realm I hope will continue to be shared. But after that, the wealth will be spent within internal borders. Those who believe the lie that Scotland subsidises the rest of the UK will discover reality if those now finding a voice elsewhere decide they no longer wish to subsidise the rest of the UK. For some division is the ultimate aim. I hope the Better Together message continues to apply across the whole United Kingdom otherwise the slow break up of the UK is inevitable. The fight against that may now just be beginning.
