The vote on the budget was 5-2 with Hooser on the side of approval - which included the removal of the 2% per year cap on Homestead class (residents who live in their homes) which doubled the and in some cases tripled property taxes on those local people on fixed incomes who can least afford it. Many are Senior Citizens who are struggling as it is to make ends meet - this will no doubt force some to sell their homes because they are unable to come up with the taxes. Very poor judgement indeed. After the damage is done Hooser is heard saying there should be a workshop to help us understand the new taxes, it was never their intention to hurt the residents. Sounds like because of their inability to understand the tax code the approval votes on the Council has done a real disservice to our county. Only Rapozo and Kagawa voted against the budget because they were against any increase in taxes and its resulting consequences. Hooser has had a lot of experience with his own taxes after 92 and should have learned something from that experience.
