The cover picture and profile picture both feature Jubilee and Hooray. Jubilee is a 3-legged lab mix that is around 3 years old. These two get along great and have so much fun playing together. Their disabilities are not seen by each other....they just see their friend. My youngest son is missing part of his brain, the nerve fibers that connect the hemispheres. Its called Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (ACC). Hes on the higher functioning end, considering the wide range of symptoms possible, but we work hard for every ounce of progress. So why take on two disabled dogs? Why add that to an already crazy life? Youd be surprised at the somewhat selfish answer: First, Im an animal lover and have always enjoyed caring for different pets and giving them a loving home. I think that all animals can teach us lessons in life. However, the lessons my family, and I are learning first hand (and disabled pets can help with) is that life isnt fair, not everyone is created equally, and disabilities will effect how you do things, and unfortunately, how people treat you. But, You Can: keep trying, be determined, find new ways to do things, show love to others and see them as individuals, not by their disability and when you run into a wall, sniff around until you find the door.....its there. I pray that seeing the joy, persistence, and kindness that Hooray and Jubilee tackle life with will help my son, and us, in the journey of raising a kid with special needs.
