The creation account is the testimony of God so it has to be a reality to the Speaker. We need the actual Author to straighten out how literal in the natural or not He is speaking. However if you look the other scriptures spoken by God regarding the creation you see that He takes it literally. Now those of us who are spiritual see spiritual truth there as well. Defining those things by the Spirit and teaching them is where the challenge really lies. The fact that both views can be true is lost on some and distorted by others. Our job is present the Gospel as a means of relationship with God. The fact that we are here to ask the questions settles the validity of creation.
