The crew today was completely in awe of exactly what we saw today. Some of the crew whom have been whale watching on Jeffreys Ledge for over 20 years have never seen the shear number of whales we saw in one trip on Jeffreys Ledge. Nonetheless this afternoon was equally as fantastic. This morning 30-40 Humpback whales were seen after we broke through the fog out on the Ledge. Whales were literally in EVERY direction you could possible look around the boat as they were all kick feeding, creating bubbles and doing some open mouth feeding. This afternoon we checked out other Humpback whales that hadnt even been seen during our morning adventures. The fact that even we were shocked and amazed to see so much activity going on as these whales were chasing down the plentiful sand lance seen in the water we can only wonder where, when, and how long such crazy activity may continue. With a lot of whales comes a lot of necessary food needed in order to keep these whales in a given area. Any number of the animals seen today could easily venture away from our area at any moment especially if the food resource drastically decreases (because it is being eaten) so who knows what may happen next time we go out. Until then here are the known whales we were able to identify out in the field as we continue to work on many more of the whale tail photographs we took today. These animals include: Twister, Erosion, Putter, Fracture, Sockeye, Bandit and calf (checking out the boat and all of our passengers!), Bisou, Sword, Daffodil, Fulcrum, Pox, Underline, Viking, Treasure, Lariat, Pinch and Exclaim. Stay tuned for photos (sorry, they will come in the morning!).
