The criminal justice system, whether in Israel or the United - TopicsExpress

The criminal justice system, whether in Israel or the United States, should make decisions on whether to keep a prisoner behind bars (or, in rare cases, to release him or her) based on the merits of the individual case and on considerations of justice and public safety, *not* politics. Accordingly, Jonathan Pollard should not be released merely to persuade the Israelis to continue with the Palestinians fruitless War Process (which is my derisive nickname for the sham Peace Process). Neither should x number of Palestinian prisoners be released to keep Mahmoud Abbas and Fatah on board. Perhaps some of the Palestinian prisoners genuinely deserve to be released, having paid their debt to society. Its possible they are in prison for relatively minor infractions (in some cases) or for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whether or not that is the case, they should not be traded away like late-round draft picks in the NBA or the NFL, for crying out loud! This brings new meaning to the familiar chant of No justice, no peace! #israel #peaceprocess #abbas #prisoner #pollard
