The crisis in Adamawa People’s Democratic Party (PDP) deepens on Sunday as National Assembly aspirants in the state are calling for the cancellation of the primaries in the state. Senator Grace Bent led other and 10 others aspiring to the Senate and House of Representatives respectively in Abuja Sunday night and rejected the primaries saying it was illegal and improper. They also insisted that the conduct of the exercise breached the party’s constitution and guidelines for primary elections. The aspirants in a petition through the state executive council to the National Working Committee of the party called for a reversal of such illegal and unconstitutional act. The petition was signed by all the aspirants into the Senate- Senator Grace Bent?, Honorable Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, Mr. Elisha Ishiaku and Mrs. Patricia Bonds. The House of Representatives aspirants who signed the petition are Cmdr. Usman Sali Bodes, Tijani K. Kwaghe, Dr. Mustapha Saidu, Umar Maina, Mohammed Bassu, Ahmed Nwan and Abdul Rahman. The petition reads in part,”we humbly lay complaints on the illegal conduct of Senate/House of Representatives for Adamawa Senatorial districts and House of Representatives constituencies held to elect the flagbearers of our great party for the forthcoming 2015 General elections. “The constitution of our great party and guidelines for the conduct of elections have been subverted in the most? despicable manner for the first time since 1998 when our great party was established.” The aspirants further noted in the petition that contrary to the provisions of the constitution and guidelines of the party for conduct of the primaries was tampered with ostensibly to favour certain anointed candidates. They added that the venue of the primaries was suddenly changed from Adamawa State to Abuja without notice to them as aspirants. The aspirants however noted that such act was contrary to Article 26 (a) (i) (ii) and (iii) of the PDP guidelines on primaries. They also alleged that the delegate list for the election was changed and substituted by people that were hired in Abuja while the authentic delegates from Adamawa State were left in Yola as they could not be conveyed because of the sudden change of venue. They claimed that “It is perhaps apt to state that the irregularities and flagrant breaches are too obvious and overwhelming to be brushed aside. “Whereas, the desperation of those element and their anointed candidates is obvious an infraction. We nevertheless trust in the chairman to intervene and ensure congresses are done in a free, fair manner and in accordance with the guidelines”.
