The *culture* of geeks has gone mainstream -- fantasy, science fiction, comic -- but not the thinking: nytimes/roomfordebate/2014/09/18/when-geeks-rule Many people still persist in mocking nerds, not celebrating academic achievement. That might be moderated now for programmers, but social stigma & bullying persists. I see the focus & celebration of many US high schools continue to be on sports, not scholars. Balancing the two with the arts and civics is healthy for mind & body. I hope this changes for the better in my lifetime.
