The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, - TopicsExpress

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. The good life is a process, not a state of being. Carl Rogers I think our quotes a really good reminder that one of the basic requirements for a successful and happy life is accepting ourselves, just as we are. Yes, there are always many areas where we can improve, because there are always opportunities to expand and grow, but if were constantly reminding ourselves that were not perfect, it upsets our peace of mind and makes change difficult. Where did we get the idea that were supposed to be perfect? How many perfect people do you know? Ill tell you how many I know - none at all! I dont think there are any. Read a few biographies of famous people and see how perfect they were. The point is that you can live a successful, happy, rewarding and productive life without being perfect. As Rogers says in the quote, accepting yourself, imperfections and all, makes change possible. So every day, in every way, you can be improving yourself and becoming better and better. Acceptance is mandatory, change is optional. But then, you can change only if you accept yourself, acknowledge your flaws but not to dwell into it, and slowly but surely the process of a better life will definitely comes your way. Love - Peter
