The current exhibition of Automata at Ruthin Art Centre is brilliant and well worth an hour of anyones time. Automata are animated sculptures and these are particularly inventive, with visitors being invited to turn handles and press buttons to bring them to life. One of them, 3 skeletons on bikes being chased by a dog, is hilarious. We burst out laughing as did other visitors. However, it seems that laughter in a gallery is taboo as a member of staff rushed in and placed a stern Do Not Touch sign over the switch. The Gallery is a great space with a great programme, but all good art provokes a response and in this case, it was spontaneous amusement. Loosen up please....
