The current status on the four fires most affecting Baker County and Malheur County land just over the Baker County line is fairly similar to that of last night. Good news for the structures in Rye Valley, however, in that crews were able to hold the fire away from the residences on Three Valleys Ranch, and the fire has burned around and bypassed them! Firefighting resources are spread thin. ODF says they are keeping a smaller Type III crew in place on the two Rye Valley and Pedro-area fires, but will bring a larger type II crew in this evening to work toward containment. The two fires in the Brogan Hill and Cow Valley areas continue to be the largest, with unconfirmed reports from residents of the fires nearing 9,000 acres each. We will try to confirm this number later today. Livestock loss for several area ranchers is almost certain at this point, but the extent is still unknown.
