The day I read Sistah Vegan, I knew that my life was about to - TopicsExpress

The day I read Sistah Vegan, I knew that my life was about to change for the better. I switched my mindset from living to eat into eating to live. A lot of foods that is apart of the black culture I no longer eat it or I substitute it for a healthier option. My decision was not based on losing weight or wanting to get in a size 4 dress, I simply desired to live better. Nowadays its strange to see people of color live a healthier lifestyle, when you have Mc-Donalds, Burger-King, Taco Bell or Nickys Rib Shack on every corner in our neighborhoods. We should be able to have grocery stores that provide fresh and affordable produce. In addition, healthier options for restaurants besides Subway will be gladly appreciated. I believe all of that nonsense is controlled by demographics. For example, any Chicagoan can see a huge difference between the West Side or South Side of Chicago vs The loop or North Side of Chicago. You pretty much have to step out your neighborhood to eat healthy. Eating healthy is not associated with a color or class. Neither should veganism or vegetarianism be looked upon as a white thing. I have heard this numerous times, Girl why you go vegan?, Black people dont eat like that. Honestly, I am not offended only because I understand how society has influenced the minds of folks. I simply respond with a smile and tare down those misconceptions. However, I dont force veganism on my family or friends. I am fully aware that this lifestyle is not for everybody, and we all have a choice. I respect people in their journey and I expect the same. I love being vegan, veganism is a way of keeping the interior of the body clean. I live simply so that others may simply live. 🌱🌱🌱
