The days and nights are so filled... And it really has been one of miracle steps. Every beat of his heart is a miracle in itself, we feel pure joy with every line removed, every medicine adjusted in the right direction, every time everyone uses the words doing good when talking about Zak. His arterial line was removed, his blood pressure medicine was stopped, he is taking some oral meds, even ate some food. Applesauce has become our favorite food in the whole world because of his success with it. And orange Gatorade. Our day has been filled with leaps of our own hearts as he has successfully taken steps in the right direction. X-rays have not been so easy for Zak as he must lay flat and it hurts...it is the only time I heard him cry out in pain. He is so brave...so so brave. Brave beyond words brave. We know that there are so many roads to cross ahead...and we know there will be bumps....(please, please God, no hills...only bumps). There have even been lighthearted moments which have made us smile like the picture of a portable potty sent out by his father in our family group chat. We all knew this unlikely picture represented progress and promise that Zak would be sitting up soon...and we all celebrated its appearance. :). These are the things that we never would have thought would fill our hearts with joy as they did today. We are all still holding our breath, no doubt, afraid to breathe and disrupt the delicate process evolving on the 18th floor in a very brave little boy!
