The death of Nido Taniam and his bash up over his hair color is shocking. A youth mercilessly bashed up in a crowded market place of Lajpat and no immediate intervention in the situation; Its extremely problematic in a state. Racism leading to a demonic act of violence over a mere altercation is the predicted verdict but with mere sensationalism help the situation. Turning the heat on to the lawlessness that is prevailing in the state needs to be checked. These groups of dominance have taken the law into their hands and act with no order and fear of the state power. In a democracy where numbers spell the verdict, such seamless ruthlessness and barbaric disorder is something not unusual. Hence the danger that looms large over the minority groups. According to normative predicaments, State is made of people and the society is fragmented on lines of cultural, religious and class diversity, where masses dont have common grounds to share a national solidarity. Plus add to it, the politicization of events by ruling and opposing parties to gain mass support. Maybe the repercussions to such a framework are problems as such. Whats the solution? Evoking a sense of common ethnic grounding has become the general norm for any justice and amendment seeking, which fails to bring in empathy from the country as a whole. There needs to be a common ethos of solidarity and understanding and respect of the diversity that builds up the Indian Nation. Nido Taniam is Arunachal resident, and yet he was categorized in all major news channels as The Northeast Student. His death is a blow to the entire nation state (not only Arunachal Pradesh as such) of being incapable of protecting its members and yet the mass as a whole fail to share the sentiments and comprehend the gravity. Self assertion of ones stand, be it religion, caste or class by disregarding the co-existence of others is a dent to the solidarity and unity of the Nation as a whole.
