The debate on a $15 minimum wage always centers on a high school - TopicsExpress

The debate on a $15 minimum wage always centers on a high school kid working at McDonalds, and having lousy customer service skills at that. Yes, that is often the case as fast food places are used as entrance to the work force. Retail is, or was, often used that way too. The problem with focusing on that one narrow perspective is all the other minimum wage earners that are NOT high school kids getting that first job because mom or dad told them too. They are a college graduate, needing a job, any job, until they can hopefully find one in their field. They are the suddenly single parent needing work to support her or himself and the child/ren. They are the parent running away from an abusive situation and finding themselves suddenly having to work. They are people such as me, older workers impacted by the changing economy where all the better paying jobs and been shipped overseas so the CEO can get a bigger paycheck. Yes jobs are coming back. But read or watch or search the job market. The jobs are either highly specialized or in the service sector and THOSE jobs are always minimum wage.
