The decession to ban undergraduate women students from entering the university library in AMU is regressive, it reflects the deeply patriarchal mindset that dominates the functioning of the university. However in a different light, We need to understand that the government in the centre is trying to utilize the oppurtunity to further demonize the minority institutions of learning. Media is trying to paint the university in a bad light, failing to acknowledge that the character of the university is not determined by these vice chancellor but its the common students and teachers who determine it. Interestingly, the same media prefers to remain shut when Hindutva goons come out with sermons, asking women to dress appropriately, propogate terms as love jihad. This remnds me of the time of 2008, when Jamia was projected as a unviersity that breeds terrorism(Post Batla house) and how it made us accountable to the stupid assumptions of the dumbest people around.
