The decision for the Fannin County School System to become a - TopicsExpress

The decision for the Fannin County School System to become a charter system has nothing to do with the opposition to the Charter Amendment that was opposed as a constitutional amendment. That amendment gave an appointed state board the authority to approve an external entity to establish a charter school in a county where the local board had chosen not to approve its establishment thus taking local control of our schools away from local residents and board members. The charter system status that the Fannin County School System is seeking now is the end result of a piece of Georgia legislation that requires all school systems in Georgia to choose one of several options in order to continue to use certain waivers that are necessary in these financial times. I hope everyone who doesnt understand the difference in these two charter initiatives will come out tonight and learn what this is about. I have heard tonights speaker and she does a great job explaining this. Hope to see you all there! -- Tonight 6-7
