The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated. William James - American philosopher (1842-1910) Do you know a stay-at-home mom or dad? Consider spending your day at home cleaning the toilets, mopping, doing laundry, washing dishes, cooking meals, etc. The spouse comes home and takes no notice of the work performed or perhaps makes no uplifting comments. In other words, they show little or no appreciation toward the spouse. The need to be appreciated and respectively loved is deeply rooted in the core of our being. Craving is a strong word indicative of something that can drive us, unknowingly, as individuals in many directions, some of which are not healthy directions.
