The deer mating season or rut is one of the most spectacular - TopicsExpress

The deer mating season or rut is one of the most spectacular displays of the power nature. All around Ireland red and sika stags and fallow bucks are calling, displaying and fighting for the right to father next years fawns. There are many places where you can go to see this happening, including wild places like the Magillacuddy Reeks or the Wicklow mountains or even more domestic settings like Phoenix park in Dublin and Doneraile Park in Cork. Some of our branches have organised deer rut events so keep an eye on this page and our website for more information. For anyone that cannot, please enjoy this incredible video of Eastern European red deer rutting. Deer can be quite aggressive during the rut so we would ask people to heed common sense and keep a safe distance from animals. We would also encourage everyone to submit any sightings of deer to the Mammal Atlas Project (mammals.biodiversityireland.ie) as they are most visible at this time of year.
