The defending Challenge Cup Champions Alba FC are through to this years Final after beating FC Ladzio 3-2. Alba were simply rampant in their quest to retain their title which in the first half, Ladzio were struggling to deal with. Bassam Baccouch back in the starting line up along side Martin Mee created a number of opportunities against a normally solid Ladzio back line. Halfway through the first half, Alba got their just rewards with Martin Mees glancing header flying in at the far post for 1-0 putting Alba firmly in the driving seat. With Ladzio rushing their own game trying to find penetration with misplaced paces, allowed Alba to capitalize with quick interchanges of play and quick attacks in on Ladzios goal. With HT fast approaching for Alba, it not come soon enough for Ladzio who were visibly struggling. HT 1-0 to Alba The second half started brightly for Ladzio which from the tactical changes including pressing higher up the pitch was paying dividends. The second goal for Alba came marginally against the run of play as the ball fell lose to Ronan Kelly just outside his own box whos excellent vision picked out Bassam with a defense splitting through ball. Bassam beat Savage for pace andc almly chipped makeshift goal keeper Darren Paul to pretty much end the contest or so the onlooking supporters would have thought. With Luca Matic struggling with a groin injury exchanged the goal keepers cloves with Darren Paul. With the sky blues refusing to give up and 10 minutes left Alba made it 3-0. Hasan broke though the lines scoring the third from an acute angle. Still believing they could get something out the game Ladzio were throwing everything and the kitchen sink to get a result. A typical and perfectly weighted Jamie Hughes cross found Darren Paul to smash a bullet header for 3-1. with 3 left on the clock, Captain Niall Keogh drove a left shot from just outside the box for 3-2. Now, with the roles reversed, it was Alba who were throwing everything they had to stop Ladzio from getting their third. Eventually the final whistle was blown and the defending Cup Champions were through to defend their Cup once again. Alba were fantastic tonight! Ladzio thank you very much for a great season.
