The degradation of an institution or simply pure saffronisation? Recently, my didi had offered a silk dhoti at the Ramakrishna Mission, Khar in Mumbai. Rakhi-di had expressed her desire that the dhoti be wrapped around Ramakrishnas idol at the Khar branch. Today, she got a call that her wish has been fulfilled. She was overjoyed but that feeling lasted for a few seconds. Apnara ki Allar bhakto? (Are u a worshipper of Allah?), the monk who had called asked her in a rather condescending tone. Rakhi-di was stunned unable to understand the reason behind such an intrepid question. Allah, Allah...musolmaner Allah! Perplexed, she asked, maane? What do you mean? Sabuj keu dyay?, referring to the color of the dhoti... it was Green. He continued, I have cut the cloth thats why i put it on. Else wouldnt have done it. His rude tone intensifying. The monk in question is Naren Maharaj at Khar Ramakrishna Mission. I believe such people should be thrown out of such a venerable institution. We wont rest until a precedent is set.
