The department of law University of Kashmir held a debate with SP traffic and ARTO Kashmir on 9/9/2013. The Head and Dean Faculty of law Prof Muhammad Ayub presided over the session, in which important issues regarding traffic scenario in Srinagar City were discussed. The students of law highlighted problems faced by the commuters and students in particular during peak hours. The SP traffic Mr Haseeb ur Rehman and ARTO Mr. Arif Shah assured the students of more Non Stop Buses for routes leading to Kashmir University. The students were of unanimous opinion that a Traffic Awareness Program is essential to reduce the present plight of traffic mess. The students assured that they will continue to volunteer their services in creating awareness among the stake holders about the advantages that flow from observance of traffic laws and norms. Law students appreciated the special provision for non-stop buses for university students to ensure timely attendance in their classes at the university. They however requested for plying SRTC non stop buses from RTC Yard at Lalchowk from 9a.m to 11 a.m on all working days. Similarly non-stop busses from Qamarwari,Haiderpora, Nowgam Railway stand, sufficient in number should be facilitated for university students both in the morning and evening. The students expressed their concern about the absence of an efficient public transport system in the valley and debated over wide variety of issues which shall form core values to be followed by all stake holders to achieve people –friendly public transport system in the state.
