The deplorable domestic violence incident involving (former) Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and his wife underscores an important fact for those either directly or indirectly impacted by this type of violence: It is important to acknowledge that an abusive situation can result in a brain injury. Anyone who may have sustained impact to the head and/or experienced a period of unconsciousness during a violent altercation should be aware of the risk of brain injury and seek a medical evaluation.
