The deputy general manager of the Abia State Environmental - TopicsExpress

The deputy general manager of the Abia State Environmental Sanitation Agency, Aba Zone posted on his Facebook wall an article apologizing to residents of Aba over the dismal performance of his Agency as it relates to the failure of ASEPA in removing the embarrassing mounting heaps of refuse in Aba. The man stated that the near-epidemic inducing refuse and dung currently adorning major streets in Aba was as a result of the break-down of the single vehicle/ payloader that ASEPA uses to evacuate refuse in the whole of Aba. I laugh at the kind of govt we have here. How can only one caterpillar serve the whole of Aba? How can a govt that says it is serious in governance assign only one vehicle to evacuate refuse and dump the refuse into disposal trucks? Aba has never been this dirty. I wonder what Aba residents did to Theodore Orji to make him hate Aba and its people so much. I was at Umuahia and I saw the little effort the govt is making to keep the place neat but it appears that the govt has left Aba people to their fate. All over the world, refuse disposal is a serious business. In one of the cities of the world I travelled to, the waste disposal vehicle comes every morning and evening, ringing bells and residents bring their wastes ccontained in recyclable polythene bags and then throw them into the awaiting waste vehicle which of course, instantly recycles the waste. Big refuse containers are not kept by the side of major roads but at cul-de-sacs or blind alleys, away from conspicousity so that it does not create an eye-sore or health hazards. But here in Aba, big ASEPA containers are kept by major roads. Several lives have been lost as a result of motorists hitting the metal containers on top speed and dying. Aba is being swallowed by refuse. Soon, a more deadlier virus than ebola may spring up from those refuse heaps. God forbid! Thank God that Aba has not recorded any incident of Ebola because if Ebola is in Aba, coupled with the refuse heaps that beautifies nearly all the streets in Aba, then the residents would be in for battle of their lives. The govt of Abia state should behave like a govt. If the governor can reduce the amount of money the govt spends in constructing billboards praising the governor, if the govt of Abia State can reduce the amount it spends on image laundering in major TV and radio stations in Nigeria, then the govt can use that money and purchase one more pay loader for the Abia State Environmental Sanitation Agency, to combat the menace of refuse in Aba, before an epidemic erupts here.
