The destruction of NASA and its shift in the American consciousness from an inspiration to a non-entity is one of the most egregious examples of how the government has allowed the idea of American achievement to atrophy in the past few decades. It is almost as if what NASA achieved in the 60s and 70s was too great a proof of American exceptionalism for those who scoff at such a notion to bear so they had to lay it to waste. We are all the poorer for it.
