The developing world is surrounded with numerous dilemmas. Unfortunately, what quickly comes to light is its political models of governance and their contribution to political crises (ideological, religious and ethnic). But the most of these crises which trickles down quickly to affect the fabrics of the grassroots populations and causing a breakdown of its functional systems is poverty and disease. Our focus on Bridgesworldwide-Plus today is on disease prevention in developing countries. The recent drama of the Ebola is still very fresh on our minds, but this is just a tip of the iceberg of the traffic of diseases in these regions. Bridegesworldwide-Plus is adding it`s voice today in solidarity with the numerous appeals already made in order to prevent diseases from breaking in these regions across the board ravaging communities from Nepal in South East Asia through Ethiopia in Africa to Nicaragua in South America just to name a few. More attention needs to be paid to water security and sanitation in these countries. Clean water and waste disposal especially human waste are key vectors of disease spread and must be arrested aggressively and timely to reduce the incidence of disease today in these regions. In most developing countries there is total disregard to sources of “clean water” and contamination is perpetual most of the time, either unconsciously or deliberate by inhabitants. Lack of education on proper hygiene is often a major hitch. Inhabitants defecating around bushes in catchment areas of water sources for lack of latrines, or in cases where there are latrines, they are drained directly in to the water bed to contaminate water sources. These aspects are crucial in disease prevention before an outbreak and a lot still has to be done. We have come a long way nevertheless, from 1981-1991 which was declared by the United Nations as a Decade of Drinking Water and Sanitation, through the World Summit of Sustainable Development (September 6, 2000 to September 8, 2000) at the UN headquarters in New York and it`s millennium goal to half the proportion of people without clean water by 2015, the declaration of Water as a human right in 2002, the United Nations Decade for Action on Water in 2005 to the UN International Year of Sanitation in 2008. Here we are in 2015, yet the goal to half the proportion of people without drinking water by 2015 is still far away, decapitating a priority millennium goal to make it look more of a talking point today. The reasons for this inability to achieve the desired outcome are obvious; population increase than anticipated, lack of education of local communities, embezzlement of funds as a result of the host government bureaucracy, and other logistical components. We need to confront these evolving set of factors which make achievement of these millennium goals (Portable Drinking Water and Sanitation) difficult with unprecedented resolve. Bridgesworldwide-Plus is hereby signing up to advocate through its members and visitors to our group page for more commitment than usual and that together we can make a difference and play a significant role in educating folks in these communities in which we live on the importance of preserving the quality of water and implementing measures which will enhance good sanitation. These are key elements in combating disease. We should volunteer to do something within our comfort levels; volunteering as a field team member or committing our donations to established organizations like Water Aid America, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), World Vision and many more to enable them cover even more grounds quickly to achieve these millennium goals and save the lives of millions out there in these troubled regions. Bridgesworldwide-Plus has the pleasure to underscore the work of Water Aid America, an organization that by 2012 had made clean water available to close to 17 million people and proper sanitation installations including safe toilets or latrines to about 12 million people in over 100 countries. This is a great achievement, yet it is still very low compared to numbers in need. This organization can double this number in a short time if resources are made available to them. They have proven to be very effective on the field and is one of those organizations we can put our material, or financial resources behind with no worry and here is how they are doing it. wateraid.org/us https://youtube/user/WaterAidAmerica
