The did an analysis on the correlation between the amount of tv someone consumed in a given week and their relative measure of success within an organization. The results arent that surprising. Front line employees watched on average 30-40 hours per week. Moving up the line their managers watched around 25-30, vp level was even less at around 15-20 and at the very top they found CEOs and chairman consumed even less at around 5-10 hours. So ask yourself, if youre unhappy with your position in life are you a victim of circumstance or inertia? Think of all the trade offs you make when you consume television...the bonds you could be strengthening with people, the books you could be reading or the things you could be creating. Dont get me wrong I love a good show and its nice to come home and relax for a while. But to do so at the sole expense of all the other things you could be doing isnt wise if youve got ambitions that have gone unfulfilled. Set your goals, make a plan and go for it...while watching house of cards or game of thrones maybe ;) Disclaimer: yes these are generalizations so no need to point out the outliers that exist of the manager who sits on Netflix and YouTube every free waking second he has. This is solely meant to point at the relationship between how you spend your free time and your lot in life. Own up to it.
