The difference between peeing and marking. Its interesting to watch my very cute b&t cockerpoo going for a pee. Normally, first thing in the morning, I let the dogs out and they run out onto the lawn and do a long, long pee. You can almost see them smiling. Theyve held on to that all night. By the way isnt this a lovely post? :-) Anyway, Jasper the cockerpoo who is an entire male will run out and pee 12 times (yes I counted) in 12 places in under 3 mins. Each wee - short. Literally 2 or 3 seconds. Its like hes on a mission. And the interesting thing is that its not always close to the house. As a general rule if a dog pees close to his home then hes not especially confident. Hes basically saying that this little boundary is mine please. The wider the boundary where a dog pees, the more area he is staking as his and therefore an indication of more confidence. Jasper has been round the entire perimeter and hes only been here 2 days. Monty the 12 year old (also entire) male Labradoodle of the house will pee on a bush, Jasper will pretend not to notice and then as soon as Monty has walked away, Jasper moves in and pees in the exact spot. Plus a few more spots around it for good measure. Then he will turn around and cock his other back leg up and pee again because of course that makes all the difference! Monty pretends not to notice or care, then as soon as Jasper has moved away, Monty comes back and re-pees over Jaspers pee which was over Montys pee. Its getting a bit ridiculous. Its pee war. Its even more ridiculous that I find this stuff interesting. Testosterone! It makes even little cute dogs a bit cocky! :-)
