The difference is clear. Labor believes in a higher education - TopicsExpress

The difference is clear. Labor believes in a higher education system built on opportunity, a system that rewards hard work and good marks. The Liberals’ only plan for Australian universities is a US-style system of greater inequality, higher fees and bigger debts. We need to send a clear message to Tony Abbott – a degree should not be a debt sentence. The Abbott Government want to cut Commonwealth funding for undergraduate places, and open the door to $100,000 degrees. Doubling and tripling the cost of degrees will force young Australians to choose between a mortgage and a university education. Increasing the interest rate on student debt will force people to choose between starting a family and paying off their degree. Tony Abbott wants to drive the dream of a university education beyond the reach of Australians from low and middle income families and kids from the bush. That’s not my vision for Australia. That’s not the Australia Labor believes in. Campus events will be held around the nation this week, and we need everyone to join their rallying cry. Bill Shorten
