The difficulties of getting old. Besides reverting to babyhood........you know.....hardly any hair, hardly any teeth, needing help getting around and shitting your pants, theres the more serious aspects like what you can drive. So yes.....a Ford Capri is a classic, but not something a 50 year old can drive unless you want to look like some sad old bastard trying to recapture his youth, and having low standards to start with. Theres a few cars like that.....VW Scirocco, Capri, early Opel/Vauxhall GTE, Toyota Celca/Supra and MR2s, Nissan 300 and other sports models..... A middle aged guy just cant get away with one of these without looking like an idiot.....so leave them to the younger crowd of retro car lovers. Youve seen Jeremy Clarkson in a mk1 Golf GTi? You want to look like that? Its almost vehicular paedophilia....... So....i need to restore this Polo so that it looks almost factory......and not boy racered up. That might be hard because it means i have to use VW parts as much as possible and try to keep it looking as little like a Polo GT as possible. Theres also no known formula for what constitutes a classic car, otherwise we would all be collecting mk2 escorts and making a fortune. So Im bargaining on the polo being as sought after as i think once the work is completed. Things change.......monthly, and can affect the value dramatically. Luckily.....I usually get it right. Otherwise right now id be getting ready to do another shift at BMW......which is my motivation. Hats off to the guys who stick it out.
