The discipline of Engineering is very broad and by its very nature - TopicsExpress

The discipline of Engineering is very broad and by its very nature of supporting economic growth has underpinning knowledge in business and enterprise. The four main branches, recognised by the Engineering Council, are Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Elements of these branches combine to form interdisciplinary branches of engineering such as Materials, Process, Environmental, Structural, Computer Systems, Control, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Automotive, Automation, Energy, Industrial, Motorsport, Nuclear, Systems, Safety & Reliability, etc. The educational experience at UTC Swindon will seek to prepare learners to follow any main or interdisciplinary branch of engineering following graduation at the end of Year 13, e.g. to progress to University, Apprenticeship or employment. The content of engineering qualifications in 14-19 education are based on core underpinning knowledge and skills that are common to all branches of engineering. The UTC will seek to offer opportunities to practise engineering in a vocational or experiential context, i.e. commissions and work placements, and to some extent this is influence by the core business of local employers. The UTC has a group of local employers committed to supporting the UTC and will be directly involved in organising and planning these opportunities and will seek to achieve as much balance as possible across the various branches of engineering.
