The draft report from the Pathways to Prevention (P2P) Workshop on the Role of Opioids in the Treatment of Chronic Pain has been posted. You can find it at: goo.gl/ZkUk8F After doing a quick first read, I was pretty impressed that the panel of people who were not experts in chronic pain, opioids, or pain management, did a very good job assimilating the evidence review (including what wasnt there), the presentations made at the 1-1/2 day workshop, and the patient and advocate input from various sources. In the end, I thought the panel did a good job balancing the negative issues of harms (e.g., abuse, addiction) and benefits (i.e., those patients who get relief from opioid therapy and do not abuse opioids).
