Matt Toplis drove down the right wing he pulled it back for Jon Phipps he was tackled but kept the ball alive he pulled it back to Turner who cracked the ball into the top left hand corner from 25 yards out 2-2. Alex were buzzing and should have gone ahead through Luke Aspen and Toplis who both wasted one on one chances. The dominant spell finally paid off when Jody Naylor played a neat one two with Phipps who thumped home from the edge of the area for 3-2. This was a great game for the neutral even the Saturday afternoon strollers began watching. Ivy responded immediately, a cross from the left was flicked on finding an untracked runner at the back post who slotted home for 3-3. Ivy went ahead on 35 mins from a deflected free kick from just outside the box leaving keeper Kelly no chance for 3-4. This was like a tennis rally as Alex responded. Great defensive work from Jon Phipps set off Turner who sent a stunning 50 yard pass into the path of Toplis he took a touch and slotted it under the advancing keeper for 4-4. It wasnt finished there as the half came to a close Ivy went in front again when another deflected shot found its way past the helpless Kelly. HT 4-5. Manager Tony Walmsley said to keep the battling going and keep playing it on the floor. Subs Jon Hetherington, Bobby Tait and new signing Ryan Kirby were introduced. Alex started a bit off the pace in the second half. Ivy had made changes to their midfield and strikers and were having a stronger foothold on the game for the first 20 mins. Jonny Murphy played in Aspen he slotted Toplis through but he put his shot wide. Ivy pressed and won a corner the cross came in and was headed home for 4-6. Alex werent finished yet and Toplis replied with a placed effort for 5-6. Bobby Tait then found Turner who saw his shot saved by the keeper. Phipps then advanced down the left cut in and was taken out right on the edge of the area as he was about to strike. Murphy took the free kick but it was fruitless. This was to be the last dominant Alex spell as Ivy increased their lead, another long throw was flicked on and slotted home past Kelly for 5-7. Within minutes it became 5-8 with concentration fading and tired legs starting to kick in from the effort put in. As the half came to a close nine and ten went in. FT 5-10 Alex man of the match was awarded to Conrad Turner Captain Andy Tootell said Ivy had their pick of the cancelled first team players game. The scoreline did not reflect the effort and the good football played throughout this game. We are great when we have the ball but still have to improve on the times we arent in possession.
