The eastern city of Mutare has quite strangely ran out of dogs. - TopicsExpress

The eastern city of Mutare has quite strangely ran out of dogs. They havent upped and left home though, the reason is by far more sinister. A development over the last 2 years which has begun worrying many residents within Mutare, Zimbabwe. Evidence shows that the dog meat trade within Zimbabwe is now starting to increase of which is being fuelled by the increase of Chinese citizens that work in and around the city. Dog and cat meat was normally only consumed as last resort when food is very rife. Unfortunately with increasing Asian workers and stories of the rather unpleasant cuisine hitting Africa then dogs and cats have literally become trade. Quite astonishing too. A trade we never thought would take off in such a manner as Nigerias has. Whats even more concerning is the fact that South Africa hosts many hundreds of thousands of Asian construction workers too. Stories of such trade are very unheard of as yet. We know dog and cat meat is being consumed however still have yet to officially prove it. Say No To Dog Meat.Net an organisation not affiliated to us has previously documented on dogs and cats being smuggled from South Africa as pets into Harare and up to North Africa, Nigeria, Lagos. Driving through Mutare coming all the way from the Christmas Pass location, there was no sign of a single dog footprint, something which was a common feature ten years ago. Where are all the dogs gone? A fast growing market has emerged in recent years in which unemployed local Zimbabweans have become super rich from the practice of selling live dogs to Chinese merchants (new residents of the city) for USD50 each. So what do these Chinese people need these dogs for, raise them as pets?, no they are actually for a dish of meat. Informal reports claim that they are even being sold to numerous restaurants in Mutare. RSPCA officials and locals have tried in vain to intervene but to no avail This comes at a time when a photo also began circulating of a Chinese worker in the diamond rich area of Chiadzwa who was caught sleighing a dog and roasting it soon afterwards. The photo was snapped by a worker at the Chinese Anjin Diamond company who requested anonymity and who says the dog eating man is actually a work colleague. The local RSPA issued a statement that it is investigating several Chinese restaurants for reported ‘crimes’ of killing dogs for meat. Also the Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Zimbabwe (VAWZ) organisation worried about the decrease in dog populations, found shocking evidence of dog meat eating activities in various parts of Zimbabwe to date. A Chinese man arrested for eating the dog meat, however walked away free after receiving only a police caution despite the police having been supplied with a copy of Zimbabwe’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Sections 3(i)(d) that criminalises any action that “causes any unnecessary suffering and 3 (i)(g) which deals with a person who “cruelly causes or permits any animal to be tied up or confined”. This is not the first case of dog or cat meat trade stories that have started to trickle out of Zimbabwe, something the local thugs of Mugabe have been trying in vain to keep secret. Its no longer a secret though and no w is the time to start showing to the world WHY Zimbabweans are being forced to consume such a taboo food. Mugabe has lynched the land of any real goodness thus seeing many people fighting to live, starving to death. Picture dates to 2012 inline with the story of this man being pictured killing then cooking a the dog within Zimbabwe, Mutare.
