The education reformers in this state do not address this glaring fact - in fact, they avoid talking about it completely. Why is this so hard for them to admit? It completely deflates their argument that the problem with public schools are the teachers and the unions they belong to. The case being made for charters and vouchers is a smokescreen for the people who have invested a lot of money in educational companies within the private sector - the Bush and Walton Family among a few other prominent names. They all are ignoring that rising poverty is crushing the working class and tossing out millions of kids in the process. Yes, we need to upgrade education models, but removing money from public schools isnt the solution. It never was the solution. Charters have been proven over and over again to do no better, and in most cases, worse than public schools. The reason is our legislators refuse to accept the large population of people living in REAL POVERTY as a result of an extractive transfer of wealth and income from the 99% to the 1%. Until they address the underlying problem of income inequality and growing poverty, our country will continue its downward spiral. Theyve created a crisis where one doesnt exist. The unions arent screwing up public education, our economic system is causing all the damage. Everything else is merely a smoke screen, to cover up the true problems facing America.
