The effect of oxidation on wheatgrass and other highly pigmented superfoods was a great concern of Dr. Charles Schnabel, who was called “the father of wheatgrass” by Steve Meyerowitz, author of Wheatgrass: Nature’s Finest Medicine. That’s why in 1937, when Dr. Schnabel introduced Cerophyl, the world’s first multivitamin, which contained wheatgrass, he packaged it in amber glass bottles with specially-designed caps that allowed Dr. Schnabel to remove the air from each bottle and replace the air with an oxygen free environment.
